Notes From The Barre – December 2014

As a mom of 3 boys, it’s impossible not to notice that over the past couple of years superheroes have dominated much of the television and film media.   With television shows like Gotham, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Arrow along with movies Thor, Spiderman, and X-men, superheroes are everywhere!   With comic inspired superheroes in todays pop culture we are definitely being influenced by this genre.

What I love most about this is that women are being portrayed as being strong and powerful.  As we see all over Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest…, “Strong is the new Sexy”.

Okay, yes many of the female comic genre outfits are over sexualized and the characters’ bodies are unrealistic for most human women to attain. But overall what I see in these superheroine characters are active women making fitness a priority so they can kick butt in their lives. They are women who can do anything! That’s the attitude I strive for in my day-to-day life for sure.

Now it’s time to channel the super stealth, quick and agile moves of the Black Canary and begin teaching my next BeyondBarre class.

Yours In Fitness,
